ROBIN ANDERSON was born in
Kenya in 1924. Robin A is descended from European pioneers who settled
in the area at the turn of the century.
Her Grandfather started
the first newspapers “The Standard”, an uncle founded one of the first
hospitals, and her father, with whom Anderson traveled the country
widely as a young girl, was among Kenya's first surgeons.
After graduating from
Rhodes University College, Robin trained at Heatherleys Art School in
London. She returned to Kenya and became a pioneer in her own right,
creating 'wall art', which is not native to the region. Working in water
colour, oils, batik and her unique originals-on-silk method, Robin
introduced and remains a major proponent of such arts in the Africa.
Robin Anderson has exhibited in Europe and North America. She resides
and works today in Nairobi, the city her family helped establish.
Her works are of Africa,
its people and the essence of its heritage.
